Official start of the conference games for the Internationals in the States! 2 double-doubles for Bakodimou and Karakasi! Hitting percentage through the roof for Mpampiri and Giourda!

The preseason matches officially ended and now it is time for conference and hard work. One double-double is not enough for Bakodimou and Karakasi, so they decided to have two! The two Greeks are in a great rhythm  and will definitely do great things their senior year. Incredible stat results from Mpampiri and Giourda, always helping their teams positively!

Efrosini Bakodimou

Bakodimou is on fire with the double-doubles once again! Towson University, despite the 3-2 defeat against Hofstra University, had Bakodimou to “kill and dig”! With 12 kills and 12 digs, she led her team to a very good performance despite the result. Fay finishes very strong with another double-double this weekend against Hofstra University for the second time with 15 kills, 10 digs, 1 block, and 2 aces!

Elena Karakasi 
Phenomenal 11-1 for Syracuse University! The Greek setter recorded her first tremendous double-double with 44 assists, 1 kill, 10 digs, and 2 blocks in the win against Ball State University. The second win came against  Mississippi State University with Elena recording 40 assists, 4 kills, 1 block, and 3 digs. The third win of the week was over former SWAC conference champions Jackson State University (3-1). The Greek player recorded her second double-double of the week with 46 assists, 3 kills, 2 aces,  and 10 digs.  The fourth game of the week was a Greek civil war between Karakasi’s SU and Glynou’s Southern Alabama. The game ended in favor of the Cuse Oranges 3-1. The setter from Athens was the assist leader for the 11th game in a row with 47 assists, 4 kills, 7 digs and 3 blocks.

Marialena Mpampiri 
Mpampiri’s Lyon College had a phenomenal win this week. Lyons had an impressive win, 3-0 over Philander Smith College. The Greek middle blocker had a great match,as she was leading her team in hitting percentage (.429) and she recorded 7 kills, 2 aces, 1 block and 1 dig. In the second match of the week, Lyon got defeated by Freed Herman College. Mpampiri had a second impressive game for the week with 9 kills, 4 blocks, and 3 digs. In the third game of the week, the Lyon ladies played against Bethel University. The game ended in favor of Bethel University(1-3). The Greek middle blocker had another great game as she was, once again, the leader in hitting percentage (.500) for her team: she had 7 kills, 5 blocks, 7 digs.

Elena Giourda 
Giourda’s College of Coastal Georgia added one win and one loss in its record against Savannah State (3-0) and Florida Memorial (0-3). The Greek outside hitter saw action in both matches. Moreover, against Savannah State, Giourda had 6 kills in just 8 attempts with no hitting errors, recording an amazing .750 hitting percentage!

Ariadni Kathariou & Efrosini Alexakou
With only one defeat, the series of victories and good performances continue for the "Red Storm”. More specifically, at the beginning of this week, on Tuesday 14/9 the Greek middle blocker  had a very good performance against Stony Brook University  with 8 kills and 3 blocks. The girls traveled to Kentucky for another tournament in which they won second place. On Friday 17/9 they faced Austin Pay with a 3-0 victory and Kathariou had 5 kills 6 blocks and 3 digs while against Lipscomb had 7 kills and 8 blocks. At the end of this tournament and on Saturday 18/9 they lost to Western Kentucky University 3-0. Alexakou was nursing an injury and will be back in full force in view of the start of Big East play this coming week.

Zoe Faki  
With two wins and two losses, Faki’s San Diego St. continues its regular season. On September 14th, despite the 3-0 defeat to Long Beach State University, Faki had a very good performance with 8 kills and 8 digs. Then, in the Wildcat Classic Tournament that took place in Arizona, SD Aztecs came across Texas Southern (3-0 win), Arizona (3-0 loss) and UC Riverside (3-0 win). Faki did not participate in any of those matches.

Katerina Papazoglou
Katerina has been a phenomenal defender for the Temple Owls this week. Temple University played against Villanova, Penn, and Princeton University. In the match against Penn(3-1), Katerina recorded 2 kills, 5 digs, and 1 ace. The Temple Owls got defeated by the University of Villanova(2-3) and Princeton University(1-3). The Greek outside hitter had a huge impact on defense, recording 19 digs and 1 block.

Iro Chounta
The University of Wisconsin Green Bay had a win over NIU and got defeated by The University of Wisconsin Madison, which is ranked second in the nation. In the match against Wisconsin Madison, Chounta recorded 7 kills, 1 block, 1 block, and 3 digs.

Ioanna Georgatzi
The Azusa Pacific Cougars had a great week! Georgatzi’s school defeated the Academy of Art with 3-1 and Fresno Pacific with 3-0. The Greek outside hitter helped her team and recorded 5 kills and 2 digs.

Stefania Anagnostou
Indiana University of Pennsylvania recorded two impressive wins against Saint Augustine and Seton Hill both in 3. The Greek outside hitter helped her team and recorded 6 kills and 6 digs. It is necessary to mention that Anangnostou had an incredible hitting percentage against St. Augustine (.545).

Ioanna Charitonidi 
Another successful weekend for UTRGV and Charitonidi, full of victories. Charitonidis UTRGV notched three more wins against App State (3-0), East Carolina (3-0) and Gardner Webb (3-0). One more weekend of good performances for the Greek player who saw action in all three matches. More specifically, on September 17th against App State, Charitonidi had 6 kills, 2 aces and 10 digs, while later that day, against East Carolina, the talented player recorded 5 more kills and 6 digs. On September 18th against Gardner Webb, the Greek outside hitter had 6 kills, 2 blocks and 2 digs.

Elena Baka 
Back to back strong performances from Baka, one loss and one win for Saint’s Mary College against Cal (1-3) and UC Davis (3-0). More specifically, on September 15th despite the loss against Cal, the Greek outside hitter led her team in points with 14 kills, 4 blocks and 4 digs, while on September 17th against UC Davis, Baka had 6 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks and 5 digs, contributing to her team’s win.

Darina Kumanova
Darina Kumanova was a leader in defense this week. Unfortunately, the games did not end in favor of the University of the Pacific. Darina Kumanova helped her team against Arizona State University (1-3). She had an impressive game recording 12 digs and 7 kills for the Tigers. In the second match of the week, the University of the Pacific played against the University of Nevada Las Vegas (1-3). The Bulgarian outside was phenomenal and she recorded 11 digs and 6 kills.

Georgia Tselepi & Olga Zampati 
Two matches against Saint Peter’s (3-0) and Rider (1-3) for Tselepi and Zampati’s Quinnipiac University this past weekend, recording one win and one loss. Both Greek players saw action this past weekend. More specifically, on September 18th against Saint Peter’s, Tselepi had 5 kills, 2 aces, 1 assist, 2 blocks and 13 digs, contributing to her team’s win. The next day against Rider, Tselepi had 8 more kills, 3 blocks and 11 digs, while Zampati had a strong performance in the front row with 11 kills, 2 assists and 4 digs.
